READY OR NOT???

At the time of this writing, the Mighty Steelers are undefeated. 3-0. I know what you're saying; it's only preseason. It doesn't really count. For what it's worth, the last time Pittsburgh started the preseason with 3 straight victories was 1997, which was also the last time they made the playoffs. That's a good sign, right? If you're any kind of a fan, your optimism is about as high as the average IQ of a Cleveland Browns fan. The offense, which looked so good against the Cryboys on Opening Night, has seemingly reverted back to last years form. There have been a multitude of injuries, especially along the Offensive Line but one cannot place blame here. What are the answers? If I knew, I'd be on the coaching staff instead of writing this article. On a brighter note, the Defense has looked very good thus far, which is a far cry from last year. Chad Scott has looked dominating on the left side and the line play is certainly encouraging, given the fact that many of these guys have never played together before. Many of the younger players on this side of the ball, such as Al Lucas and Clark Haggans, have performed exceptionally well thus far and this bodes well for the Black 'n Gold as the season wears on. Could this yet be another campaign that us fans have come to know all too well? We've all seen it before; Inept Offense, Stifling Defense. Low scoring, hard fought, physical battles. While these kinds of games have just about turned all my hair gray and left me with no fingernails, they have also put us in the win column more often than not. I'll take the trade off because my hair was going to go gray eventually anyway and the fingernails always grow back. Many of the so-called experts don't give the Steelers much of a chance to do anything this year. I say that's fine; let then think that. I don't think Cowher and Company mind sneaking up on anybody. If things don't work out as we like, then it's no real surprise. If it does, then we're all in for one FANtastic ride. Ready or not??? Only time will tell.
