HEINZ FIELD BECKONS
Things are falling into place nicely for the PSFCOB's Annual Weekend Trip to the Mighty 'Burgh for the December 2nd game VS the Vikings. Those who are making the trip will become part of history as we christen the opening of Heinz Field as only the PSFCOB can.
At this time, all available tickets are SOLD OUT. We were able to secure a total of 243 tickets and sales had been ongoing since early June. For those who were unable to secure seats through the Fan Club, I would suggest going to Pittsburgh and trying to get tickets at the game. There are always scalpers walking around the stadium and it's certainly worth a try. Even if you can't get tickets to the game, you can enjoy partying with your PSFCOB brethren both before and after the game at the best damn Tailgate Party Heinz Field has yet to see.
This year's Tailgate extravaganza will be held at Reinhold's Ice Cream Company located at 800 Fulton Street. ( MAP/DIRECTIONS ) For those unfamiliar with the area, this is slightly north northwest of Heinz Field on the other side of the ramps of Ohio River Boulevard. I am told it is a 6 minute walk/10 minute stagger from the home of the Steelers. Maps will be sent out to all those who ordered game tickets and/or tailgate passes along with their confirmation letters within the next couple weeks. As always, the Terrible Grill will take center stage, serving kolbasi, hamburgers, pit beef and a variety of other delectable delights. The Terrible Bar will also be there, spewing forth enough frosty suds to satisfy even the thirstiest fan. We will once again have our own port-a- johns and sound system to make the Tailgate Party the only place to be.
The game day festivities are set to begin around 9:00 AM and will go until about 12:30 PM when we make our way into Heinz Field for the first time. Things will get started up again immediately after the game is over and will go on for as long as we feel like celebrating. A great way to officially kick off this one-of-a-kind weekend is the Saturday Night Party at The Sheraton at Station Square. ( MAP/DIRECTIONS ) This is the official home away from home for the PSFCOB for this annual occasion and many of your Fan Club comrades spend the day taking in the sights and sounds of Pittsburgh as we eagerly await the next day's kick off. At last year's party, we were fortunate enough to welcome noted author Jim O'Brien into our midst. We are hopeful Jim can come again this year and we are also trying to secure commitments from some other special guests. Nothing is carved in stone as of yet but, you know the old saying; never say never.
The Saturday Night party usually starts around 8:00 PM and continues well into the wee hours of the morning. The cost to come is $10.00 per person and entitles you to unlimited brew and munchies. A cash bar will also be available for those with a more sophisticated taste. We will also have TV's available to watch Mario and the Penguins take on the Phoenix Coyotes.
This weekend is a mere few weeks away. I for one can't Wait !!!
Tis the season to tailgate and the PSFCOB has been keeping busy at all four official locations.
The day: Sunday, November 4th. The place: The Purple Goose Saloon. The time: 10:00 AM. The reason: The Baltimore raisins are coming to Pittsburgh to prove that their one year reign as Super Bowl Champs was indeed a fluke. This game promises to be an epic battle and there's no better way to start your Steeler Sunday than by downing some kolbasi and beer in the Goose's parking lot. We're out to once again show the Washington Boulevard corridor that Baltimore is indeed Steeler Country. Folks who frequent The Goose on a regular basis and those who are part of the Fan Club e-mail group are well aware of this event.
Shooter's Sports Bar In Severna Park (a.k.a. PSFCOB South) will host a Tailgate Party for the 4:00 PM revenge match-up against Jacksonville on November 18th. The party will start around 1:00 PM and is a FANtastic way to wane away the hours proceeding this late kick-off. The Steelers certainly have something to prove against the jags and I'm confident they will not disappoint. Come on down and see how Charlotte Lipke and the good folks at Shooters run the show. Like the Steelers, I'm confident that Shooters will not disappoint.
Krug's Place in Frederick was the perfect tailgate backdrop for the thorough beating the Black 'n Gold laid upon Tampa's Buccaneers this past October 21st. Dan Maerzluft of The Frederick Brewing Company donated 2 kegs of micro brew and that proved to be the perfect compliment to the delicacies delivered from The Terrible Grill. As game time commenced there wasn't a seat to be found and the place was packed wall to wall with Steeler faithful. Scott Demers, who heads the Frederick Chapter of the PSFCOB has had an ongoing mission all season to make a donation to Feed the Children and he, with the help of the good fans at Krug's, are on pace to make a record setting contribution. There is currently a silent auction ongoing for a pair of tickets to the Steeler-raisin game on December 16th along with two bus passes from the C.C.C. Tailgate Party. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Feed the Children Fund. Top bid at this time is believed to be around $300.00. You still have a chance to participate so don't delay.
Speaking of the Calgary Cattle Company, their annual tailgate bash is set for Sunday, December 16th when the Mighty Steelers visit the Lavender Lavatory and flush the raisins. As in years past, PSFCOBer Jack Staley has secured busses to take Fan Clubbers with tickets to and from the game. The Tailgate Party behind the bar will kick off around 4:00 PM and the busses will leave sometime around 6:30 PM. The cost for the bus ride is $15.00 per fan but don't delay as all bus orders must be in NO LATER than NOVEMBER 25th. I urge all those interested to complete and mail the enclosed Order Form TODAY.
Even if you don't have tickets to the game, I highly recommend coming for the party and staying at the C.C.C. to watch the game. It makes for a nice change of pace and gives you the opportunity to meet new friends. This shouldn't be too difficult; after all, we all share a common Black 'n Gold interest.
