THE ONLINE VERSION OF THE NEWSLETTER OF THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS FAN CLUB OF BALTIMORE, MD. JUNE, 2004 *** PAGE 2 *** CLUB NOTES
Belated congratulations to PSFCOBers Brian and Kim Ferris on the overdue announcement of the birth of their third child Kalee Elizabeth who was born back on 9/10/03. She is also the Ferris' third daughter. As a father of two girls myself, I must say that my prayers are with you (and get your own bathroom NOW).
From the "Steelers fans are Everywhere" file, congratulations go out to Santaigo Murias for his new position as Vice President of the Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club of Buenos Aires. Current Fan Club member Keith Thomas moved to Buenos Aires a few years back as part of his employment but never lost touch with the Black 'n Gold. In fact, he promoted his devotion of the Mighty Steelers to the point that Santaigo knew he was missing out on something FANtastic. Well, no more, my friend. Their Club maybe small at this time but I'm sure they're no less vocal come game day.
While we all know that The Sports Page in Marley Station Mall is a great place to stock up on all your Steeler paraphernalia, there's a new kid on the block that deserves a mention. Pro Image has opened up on the second level of Marley Station Mall and likewise offers a wide array of Steelers merchandise as well as items for all other teams and sports. Pro Image will also honor the same 10% discount for Fan Club members that The Sports Page currently offers so the next time you're in the Mall, say welcome to Rob Harnsberger at Pro Image. If you're not in the area, I guarantee it's worth the drive to check out both establishments and stock up on the latest Steelers gear.
At his memorial service Coach's daughter said that his greatest attribute was passion... for his family, his friends, his country, sports and his beloved Steelers. Five colors flew proudly at his house: red, white and blue, and black and gold.
He was a man of planning and consistency. When he introduced me to the Goose I learned that you had to be there at least 3 hours prior to game time, and that you had a specific seat, ordered specific drinks and ate specific food only at specific times. When I introduced him to Shooters, his nervous apprehensions that they could actually get this 'all important 2nd pre-season game' almost drove me to drink. (Yes they did get the game, albeit the broadcast was in Spanish).
Many may not realize that he was an outstanding single wing running back at Shippensburg, and earned his nickname by coaching and teaching in Montgomery County for 40 years. His five children paid Coach the ultimate compliment when they said, "You all consider yourself lucky that you knew him and could call him friend...we thank God every day that we could call him father". We will miss you Coach.
